Hi! I’m Enrique, a computational linguist turned data scientist and crossword constructor, and this is my space for sharing crosswords and writing about data projects in the Puzzles & Games space.
Crosswords
I’ve been writing crosswords since 2020 for a wide variety of publications:
- 200+ full-size crosswords at the New York Times, Atlantic, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Apple News+, Defector, AVCX, Puzzmo, etc.
- Mini crosswords at Yahoo and SFGATE
- Tournament crosswords at Boswords and Westwords
- Commercial campaigns for T Brand
- Contributions to books such as A24’s 99 TV Crosswords and a pop culture decades series by Hachette that includes Grids Just Wanna Have Fun (’80s), New Grids on the Block (’90s), and Grids Don’t Lie (’00s)
My other activities in the crossword space include serving as co-editor of Lil AVC X (2021-2022) and co-founder/developer at Spread the Wordlist (2021-present), an open-source tool widely used by crossword constructors.
Interactive Fiction
I’ve always found IF to be a cool intersection point between literature and gaming, and I’ve written a couple of pieces, including The Imposter. I’m also a top 100 reviewer at IFDB, with some of my competition reviews appearing here as blog posts.
I’ve also released an IF recommendation app for the community, which is updated on a quarterly basis and available at if-recommender.datalexic.com. Additional details can be found here.
